For American designer Justin “Casper” Choa, certainty was never part of the story. Long before founding CASPER CHŌA in 2024, his journey unfolded through detours, risk, and reinvention.
Design was not his starting point. He initially enrolled in marketing while experimenting with filmmaking, until 2019—when he took an uncharted leap into design with no prior experience.
In Los Angeles, the COVID-19 pandemic struck just as he began to find direction. What could have been a crippling setback became a crucial turning point. In light of the pandemic, isolation gave him the opportunity to sharpen his voice and shape a design language uniquely his own.
By graduation, the future was still unwritten. A new question surfaced: What comes next?
Yet by then, uncertainty had become his guide. CASPER CHŌA was born from the belief that the unknown holds the power to transform. Each risk opened new doors. Each unanswered question carried possibility.
This is not a story of resisting the unknown, but of finding life within it.
